PACKAGED HVAC UNITS IN GASTONIA, NC

People are accustomed to seeing a standard type of air conditioning system in most homes: an AC with an outdoor cabinet that connects to an indoor unit. The condenser coil is located outside and the evaporator coil inside. A blower fan sends the cooled air from the evaporator coil into the ventilation network connected to the inside unit. But this type of air conditioning system—and a similar heat pump system—is not the only option available. Homes can also rely on self-contained packaged HVAC system where all the components are placed in a single outdoor unit.

Although a packaged HVAC unit isn’t the best choice for many homes, there are some that will gain special benefits from one. If you’re curious about a packaged air conditioner or heat pump, or if you already have one that needs repairs, maintenance, or a complete replacement, call FSM Heat & Air today and talk to our technicians. We offer quality and reliability you can trust in Gastonia, NC and the surrounding area.

WHAT ARE PACKAGED UNITS?

The standard residential air conditioner or heat pump is what is known as a split system: it is "split" between indoor and outdoor components, each housed in its own cabinet. The indoor cabinet contains a refrigerant coil and a blower fan to send conditioned air into the ventilation system, and the outdoor unit contains a second refrigerant coil as well as the compressor. The two units connect through power and refrigerant lines. But a packaged unit places all the components, including both refrigerant coils, in a single cabinet that is housed outside. This cabinet connects directly to the ventilation system through a pair of ducts. The unit draws air from inside the home through a return duct, moves it through the two sets of coils to condition it, and then uses a blower to send through a supply duct into the house and its ventilation system.

BENEFITS OF INSTALLING A PACKAGED AIR CONDITIONER OR HEAT PUMPS

Packaged units are mostly found in commercial use, where they are placed on the roof of a building. But they are sometimes beneficial for homes. They take up less indoor space and offer quieter operation, and they are easy for technicians to service and maintain, since all the components are in a single place and any necessary work can be taken care of outside the home. If you’re unsure if a packaged AC or heat pump is ideal for your specific residential needs, ask a professional for advice.
