DUAL FUEL SYSTEMS AND SERVICE IN GASTONIA, NC

Heat pumps have become a popular option for home comfort because they combine two systems in one: a heater and an air conditioner. However, heat pumps can sometimes run into trouble in extremely cold weather and start to lose their energy efficiency while in heating mode. This doesn’t mean that a house that often encounters freezing temperatures can’t also benefit from a heat pump: a special hybrid heat pump known as a dual fuel system can overcome the coldest weather and still help save money.

Deciding whether a dual fuel system is right for your household comfort needs and a good fit for your budget requires the assistance of HVAC professionals. FSM Heat & Air installs as well as services hybrid heat pumps, and we’re glad to offer our expertise to make sure that you have the finest heater. We serve Gastonia, NC and the surrounding areas, offering quality and reliability you can trust.

WHAT IS A DUAL FUEL SYSTEM?

Also known as a dual fuel heat pump and a hybrid heat pump, this type of heating system combines the heating and cooling abilities of a heat pump with the power of a furnace. Heat pumps can sometimes lose their energy efficiency in heating mode when the outdoor temperature drops below freezing. It becomes more difficult for the heat pump to absorb sufficient thermal energy from the cold air. A dual fuel heat pump overcomes this problem with access to a secondary heat source in the form of a furnace that runs off a secondary energy source, such as natural gas or propane. When the heat pump drops past the economic balance point (the point where it begins losing efficiency) the back–up furnace comes on to make up the difference. The furnace only runs as long as necessary, then shuts off. This helps keep the heat pump energy–efficient.

IS A HYBRID HEAT PUMP A GOOD OPTION FOR MY HOME?

That’s a good question. However, it isn’t one that we can answer for you on a webpage: it depends on your home and its heating and cooling needs, as well as your budget. You should always call on professionals when you’re looking to install any type of HVAC system for your home so they can give you an informed opinion about the best heater or AC to install. If you’re interested in installing a heat pump, an HVAC professional can tell you if you should opt for a hybrid heat pump rather than a standard one.
